چکیده
The Rolls-Royce Merlin engines were a series of 12 cylinder, 60° "V", 27 litre, liquid cooled piston aircraft engines built during World War II by Rolls-Royce, and under licence in the United States by Packard. They are widely considered to be among the most successful aero engines produced during World War II, and perhaps the finest piston engines ever built for aviation. Merlins are highly soughtafter by aviation enthusiasts even today.

Towards formal testing of jet engine Rolls-Royce BR725
The Rolls-Royce BR725 is a newly designed jet engine for ultra-longrange and high-speed business jets. In this paper we apply our theory of formal testing [5,6] to the starting system of the Rolls-Royce BR725 control software. To this end we model the system in CSP, evaluate test suites against the formal model, and finally execute test suites in an in-the-loop setting of the SUT. This case stu...
متن کاملIntegrating Domain Based Engineering Knowledge in Computational Models to Enhance Design Processes for Engineering Jet Engines at Rolls-Royce
Research led by Professor Chapman at the Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) lab has resulted in a thriving partnership with the aerospace division of Rolls-Royce. KBE research captures domain-based knowledge and integrates it into refined computational models with automated tools to enhance design processes for engineering complex systems. This research has contributed to important improvements ...
متن کاملA Pragmatic Approach to Reuse Introduction in an Industrial Setting
The Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre at the University of York has spent the past two years introducing a reuse initiative in the Control Systems Engineering department of Rolls-Royce Aerospace in Derby, England. During this time reuse has begun the progression from an ‘ad hoc’ adjunct to the system production process to a systematic, well managed and organised core technique. This pape...

متن کاملHarnessing Massive Parallelism for Tractable Reasoning -- A Cognitively Motivated Approach
We can understand language at the rate of several hundred words per minute (Carpenter & Just 1977) even though, doing so involves establishing referential and causal coherence, generating expectations and making predictions. This suggests that we can (and do) draw a wide range of inferences very rapidly, automatically and without conscious effort -as though they are a reflexive response of our ...
